And one day, reading a library copy of Reader’s Digest, as I’d demolished the pile of fiction I’d checked out the week before, I noticed the submissions of regular, everyday people.

Short stories shared about ordinary life.

Some were talented, captivating. Stringing words together and sharing a one or two page tale.

Others not so much, but still there their words were—published. Printed in black and white for any and all to read.

And in that moment, I realized something profound.

If they could, I could. And it wasn’t about being the best, little Ms. Perfect with every word. It was more about getting it done.

So I stopped shoving my words in a drawer.

Stopped closing the lid on all that was tumbling inside me, aching to be free, and I wrote a story like no other.

A magnetic story that I knew would captivate.

And one month later published was me.

I wrote my first novel, while still in high school, in 28 days.

As I couldn’t blow off my school work, I literally had only a few dedicated hours a week—if that—to write.

And the big idea, the one that sprouted this first book attempt by me, it came from an already crafted, magnetic short story . . .
